Classification and use of common thermal printer

Thermal printers play an increasingly important role in modern office, is one of the essential output equipment.

It can only be used for daily office and family use, but also for advertising posters, advanced printing and other industries.

There are many types of thermal printers that can be classified according to different standards.According to the output mode can be divided into line  printer and serial printer.  According to the printing color, it can be divided into monochromatic printer and color printer.  According to the working mode can be divided into impact printer ( dot matrix printer and font printer ).   ) and non-impact printer ( laser printer, inkjet printer and thermal printer ).  The most commonly used impact printer is dot matrix printer.  This printer has high noise, slow speed and poor typing quality, but it is cheap and has no special requirements for paper.

In addition to thermal printer, non-impact printer is mainly used for inkjet printer and laser printer, wax spray, hot wax and sublimation printer.  Non-impact printer has low noise, high speed and high print quality.  Laser printer is very expensive. Inkjet printer is cheap but expensive.  Thermal printer is the most expensive, mainly used in professional fields.

Common printers in the market are dot printers, inkjet printers,thermal printer and laser printers. 

1. Needle printers  

Lattice printer is the earliest printer to appear.  There are 9, 24, 72 and 144 dot matrix printers in the market.  Its characteristics are : simple structure, mature technology, good cost performance, low consumption cost, can be used for bank deposit and discount printing, financial invoice printing, scientific data record continuous printing, bar code printing, fast skip printing and multiple copies of the production application.  This field has functions that can’t be replaced by other types of printers.

2. Inkjet printers  

Inkjet printers form text or images by jetting ink droplets onto print media.  Early inkjet printers and current large-format inkjet printers use continuous inkjet technology, while popular inkjet printers generally use random inkjet technology.  These two inkjet techniques are quite different in principle.  If inkjet printers are simply divided into print formats, they can be roughly divided into A4 inkjet printer, A3 inkjet printer and A2 inkjet printer.  If divided by use, it can be divided into ordinary inkjet printer, digital photo printer and portable mobile inkjet printer.

3. Laser printers  

Laser printer is a non-impact output device that combines laser scanning technology and electronic imaging technology.  The following figure is laser printer.  The machine may be different, but the working principle is basically the same, need to be charged, exposure, development, transfer, discharge, cleaning, fixed seven processes.  Laser printers are divided into black and white and color, providing faster, higher quality, and lower cost services.  With their multifunctional and automated features, they are increasingly popular with users.

4.Thermal printer

The working principle of the thermal printer is that the semiconductor heating element is installed on the printing head, and the printing head can print the required pattern after heating and contacting the thermal printer paper. The principle is similar to the thermal fax machine.  The image is generated by heating and chemical reaction in the membrane.  This thermosensitive printer chemical reaction is carried out at a certain temperature.  High temperature accelerates this chemical reaction.  When the temperature is lower than 60 °C, the paper needs a long time, even for several years to become dark.  When the temperature is 200 °C, this reaction will be completed in a few microseconds.

Thermal printing technology was first used in the fax machine. Its basic principle is to convert the data received by the printer into a dot matrix signal to control the heating of the thermal sensitive unit, and to heat and develop the thermal sensitive coating on the thermal paper.  Thermal printer has been widely used in POS terminal system, banking system, medical instruments and other fields.  The thermosensitive printer can only use special thermosensitive paper. The thermosensitive paper is coated with a layer of coating that will produce chemical reaction and color change when heated, similar to the photosensitive film. However, this layer of coating will change color when heated. Using this characteristic of the thermosensitive coating, the thermosensitive printing technology appears.  If the user needs to print invoices, it is recommended to use needle printing. When other documents are printed, it is recommended to use thermal printing.
